New ‘Stranger Things 5’ Trailer Teases “One Last Adventure”
Well, it looks like it’s the end of Hawkins—and possibly the world—one last time (well, until the spin-offs come)! The new teaser for Stranger Things 5 just dropped this morning, after yesterday’s poster reveal. Looks like Netflix will be using the release strategy of splitting up a season of TV into three parts. Especially if this is your final season, I actually don’t mind this approach. Netflix is far from the only service to do this, and the advantage is that viewers can actually process what they just watched and talk/speculate about what will happen next between batches of episodes. They already did this with Season 4 by splitting it into two “Volumes”, but will it work here? Creators Matt and Ross Duffer have put a lot of faith on the holiday release schedule: Vol 1 arrives right before Thanksgiving, with Vol 2 coming on Christmas, and the grand finale dropping on New Year’s Eve.
So this new trailer reveals more without giving away the game. That’s good news, considering that I actively avoid watching movie previews anymore (unless they are playing in front of a movie I’m seeing at the theater) because too many spoil the coming attraction. Either that, or show more than I wanted. I like going into a movie knowing as little as possible. I am sure that this teaser will generate a lot of excitement from the fanbase. I will admit that I am a part of that fanbase, even if my fanboy enthusiasm has waned a bit over the years. I will certainly still watch this final season out of curiosity to see how they conclude this story–almost a decade later.
Here is the official synopsis for this final go-round:
“The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.”

The Duffer Brothers have publicly stated that they will finally answer important questions that have been teased to some capacity (i.e. why Will was taken, his connection to The Upside Down, etc.). As with Cobra Kai earlier this year, the creators are clearly aiming to make it an event. Part of me welcomes that, and again not dumping the entire season in our laps is nice. Great shows like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul both split their final seasons into two parts, leaving fans (including yours truly) on the edge of our seats.
But this trailer has once again sent social media buzzing with excitement. New images include Dustin mourning at Eddie’s grave; Vecna sporting a spiky new look; Karen and Holly Wheeler hiding from something or someone; Steve operating a radio station, and much more. Max also appears in the trailer, but how she recovered from her coma is unknown.

The titles of every episode in the upcoming season have also been revealed in a separate video. Elsewhere, the first few lines of the script for the premiere have been shown. We know specific dates and times that each Volume. This new trailer whets voracious fans’ appetites for the much-anticipated finale. Are you excited? Will you be spending your holiday season watching these characters on “one last adventure”?
